The Banff Centre is a global leader in arts, culture, and creativity, renowned for its commitment to developing and promoting creative work across the arts, sciences, business, and the environment. Between 2018 and 2019, we were contracted by the Banff Centre’s marketing department to spearhead the design of promotional materials for a new digital-focused event: Arts, Culture, and Digital Transformation.
Our role involved establishing a fresh brand look and feel for the Digital Summit while strictly adhering to the Banff Centre’s overarching brand guidelines. Alongside the Digital Summit work, we also assisted the marketing department with various design projects ranging from annual reports to print and digital ads.
Challenge
The Banff Centre boasts an established and recognizable identity. Our challenge was to create a distinct look for the Digital Summit while remaining fully consistent with the Centre’s brand guidelines and values.
The Digital Summit, entitled Arts, Culture, and Digital Transformation, required an engaging visual system that conveyed innovation, creativity, and the intersection of technology and the arts.
From digital ads to on-site event signage, the scope of work had to be completed efficiently and cohesively so all materials would look unified across various platforms.
Approach
Research & Mood Boards: We began by compiling inspirational imagery that reflected the themes of creativity, digital transformation, and innovation. Several mood boards were presented to the Banff Centre’s marketing team.
Iterative Design Process: Once the direction was approved, we fine-tuned the visual approach—exploring color palettes, typography, and stylized digital “wave” elements that spoke to the summit’s focus on art and technology.
Brand Consistency: Every design element—color usage, typography choice, composition—was intentionally selected to remain consistent with the Banff Centre’s brand identity while also offering a fresh perspective for the summit.
Deliverables
Digital Ads & Social Media Assets: We designed captivating banner ads, social media graphics, and email marketing templates to promote the summit online.
Event Signage & Posters: Large-scale posters and directional signage, echoing the wave designs and color palette, were displayed across the Banff Centre’s campus.
Program Package: A cohesive participant guide and event brochure ensured attendees had essential summit information presented in a visually appealing, user-friendly format.
Beyond the Digital Summit, we assisted the marketing department with annual reports, donor reports, event posters, and both print and digital ads, maintaining brand consistency across all collateral.
